Ham and Leek Gratin recipe
This tasty dish is a great main course but the ham parcels also work well as a side dish.
Ingredients:
- 8 leeks the white part only
- 8 slices ham
- 40g butter
- 40g plain flour
- 500ml whole milk
- 75g cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper
Method of Preparation:
-
Steam the leeks for ten minutes over a pan of boiling water whilst you make the sauce.
-
Melt the butter in a saucepan and once foaming, add the flour. Mix well and cook for five minutes or so, stirring constantly. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly, until you have a smooth sauce.
-
Add the cheese and season well, then cook for another 3 minutes or so.
-
Once the leeks are cooked, allow them to cook for five minutes or so and turn the grill onto high.
-
Wrap each leek with a slice of ham and then place into a baking dish with the wrapped part of the leek facing downwards.
-
Pour the sauce over the parcels then place the baking dish underneath the grill for five minutes so that the sauce is golden brown and bubbling.
